The department of Ceramic and Cement Technology was established in the year 1981 with a vision to provide learned and skilled engineers and to provide an exciting learning environment in the field of ceramic and cement technology to serve the local and global industries and institutes. Since its inception department has created more than 500 graduates who are serving in premier industries, to name a few BHEL, corning glass, JSW, ACC, Ultratech, Shree Cements, Saint-Gobin, Johnson, Bharat potteries, etc.
The department is equipped with sophisticated instruments like BET surface area analyzer, FTIR, Flame photometer, AAS, pyrometric cone equivalent and Refractoriness under load, etc. our department has well-qualified faculties with masters and Ph.D. from IITs, IISc, and NITs.
Department teaching and learning process is well planned and designed to develop the potential of students in the ceramic and cement technology field, encourages independent thinking, and ensures each graduate will have professional ethics, self-esteem, lifelong love for learning, and confidence. The curriculum provides ample opportunities for co-curricular activities by organizing workshops, seminars, and conferences and encouraging students to actively participate in seminars and conferences.
Many interested students of our department actively participate in cultural activities at the intra-institute level, like “Nirmana” and inter Institute functions like “Techfest” of various premier institutes. Our department faculty and students are active participants in professional bodies like the Indian Ceramic Society, Material research society of India, and InstitutIon of engineers. Our institute has a dedicated separate department for sports to cater to the student's needs for physical fitness and ethical values.
our department has started a post-graduate course during the year (2014-15) which offers interdisciplinary Master of technology in Material science and Technology, to encourage B.E. graduates of various disciplines such as Ceramic and Cement Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, etc. for lifelong learning. As of today 30 students have completed the M.Tech program from this department and are working in organizations such as ARCI Hyderabad, Springer Verlag publishers, NAL Bangalore, ISRO Bangalore, Ashapura Industries, etc.
To earn recognition as a department par excellence, in the field of ceramics and materials engineering education and research so as to create a workforce of technocrats to serve the needs of industries and society across the globe.
