Department of Industrial and Production Engineering
The Department of Industrial and Production Engineering was established in 1981 with an
intake of 40 students. , now enhanced to 60 students. The Department was started with an
objective of imparting quality education in the field of Industrial and Production Engineering.
The emphasis is on modern production methods and management of resources. The
laboratories and project lab are well equipped with modern machines and equipments for
developing skills with hands on experience. A unique facility Human Factors and Ergonomics
has been created to impart the skills of analyzing and improving the workplace, workstation
and work environment. The Department has solar power backup.
The department has 9 faculty out of which 7 faculty are with Doctorate degree and 2 with post
graduate degree. The average experience of the faculty is over 25 years.
The Department is Accreditated by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for third time, valid
up to 2022.
The Research Centre established in the year 2005 has enrolled 35 research scholars out of
which 11 are awarded doctorate degrees. All the faculties with doctorate Degree are mentors
for research scholars. Over 200 Technical papers have been published in International and
National Journals and conferences.2 patents are being awarded recently to the mentor.
The focus of the department is overall development of students. ISTE student’s chapter and
IEOM (Michigan, USA) students chapter are providing the opportunities to showcase the
knowledge and talent of the students. The IEOM students chapter has been awarded the best
chapter twice in the annual conference of the society, in Thailand (2019) and Dubai (2020). The
students also participated in IEOM conference in Singapore (2021), and China (2021). Recently 8 technical papers were presented by the students group in the International conferences. One
of the paper presented at First North American and Caribbean Conference on IEOM held at
Haiti, was adjudged the best undergraduate student paper. Students have also participated in
various National level competitions and won awards.
To foster innovation and creativity the department students are encouraged to take up projects
in New age incubation network, wherein a fund of Rs. 3 lakhs is given to each selected group so
that their innovative ideas are translated to commercial products.
In the last 3 years 7 groups have been funded by Dept. of science and technology, Govt. of
Karnataka. KSCST has also funded the final year projects of our students.
70% of our students are placed in industries all over the world and some of them are working in
top positions. Some of the companies which have recruited our students recently are, Tata
motors, Amazon, Wipro, Shree cements, Bosch, Matrix Toolings , Shahi exports, Harman, etc. A
few of them have joined govt. organizations and many have become entrepreneur, starting
their own business. Every year about 20% of the students join reputed institutes in India and
overseas for higher education.
The department has MoU with a number of industries, to expose the students to industrial
environment and also enable them to do live projects.
The Department was the first in the college to start a Research Centre with good enrolment of Research Scholars. So far department has produced quite a good number of Ph.Ds and many students are pursuing their research in product design, solar energy, CAPP and supply chain management.
The Department is conducting guest lectures by experts, Alumni and industry people, workshops, seminars etc regularly. Department is committed to outcome based education. The Alumni of the Department are working in various industries across the globe. Department is having MOU with the industries to help the students.
Students’ chapters namely The Institution of Engineers (India) and Industrial Engineering and Operations Management Society International (Michigan) have been started in the department. Students are encouraged to conduct cultural, curricular and extracurricular activities.
